About
The sandy point at the northern tip of Koh Dach is a popular picnic site and swimming hole for local families and the odd expat.
Your first glimpse of this "beach resort" will be a barren patch of sand with rows of thatched-roof bamboo huts extended like fingers into the Mekong River. Depending on the river's water level, the hut platforms may be submerged, just above the water line, or high and dry on land.
Experiences vary wildly, especially for foreigners, who freelance operators often attempt to charge wildly inflated prices. But it is fairly accepted that there is a small fee to enter the picnic area and another fee charged for renting a space in one of the picnic huts (though if you order food from the person who rents this space that fee may be waived).
You can also bring your own food or order from the vendors who wade through the water offering snacks and drinks.
Many local families like to swim here. The water is shallow near the huts, but beware of the strong current further out.
