About

Built in the 1960s, the Olympic National Stadium was until recently the biggest stadium in Cambodia. Designed by renowned local architect Vann Molyvann, the multi-purpose sports stadium has a capacity of nearly 70,000 people - though despite its name it has never hosted an Olympic Games.

The historic stadium was refurbished in the early 2000s, though some of its buildings are still a bit decrepit, and with hundreds of bats nesting in the rafters. The football pitch and swimming pool are clean and well-maintained.

The stadium and its associated sports complex have facilities for running, football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, ping pong and martial arts. The stadium grounds also attract local recreational walkers, cyclists and aerobics groups during the cooler morning and evening hours.

The Olympic National Stadium often hosts national and international football matches. Tickets are usually quite cheap - often less than $2 - and joining the cheering local fans can be a memorable experience.
