The ruins of this ancient temple sit atop a 133-meter-high hill some 45km south of Phnom Penh. It is possible to ride a moto all the way to the top, but most people prefer to park at the foot of the hill and approach the temple as was intended by climbing 400 laterite stairs to reach the summit.

Those who complete the climb are rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and a fine example of Pre-Angkorian architecture.

Phnom Chisor temple was built in the early 11th century by King Suryavarman I and dedicated to the Hindu gods Shiva and Vishnu. Their images are still visible on some of the carved sandstone lintels and pediments.

There is a snack stall at the summit and several open-air restaurants and picnic sites at the base of the hill.
