If there’s one thing every kid loves to do every chance they get, it’s going outside to play! While Phnom Penh does not have the over-the-top playgrounds you’ll find in the West or certain Asian capitals (we’re green with envy, Singapore), it does have a fair number of public outdoor playgrounds where your kids can gather, burn off energy and have fun.
Here’s our roundup of 10 “essential” outdoor playgrounds in Phnom Penh with swings, slides and climbing structures – and all for free.
Occupying the roof of a shopping mall, this spacious outdoor play and activity area should be on every parent’s list. In addition to a decent playground, you’ll find a free-to-use splash pad, zipline and bouncy pads.
Sure it’s just two towers connected by a wobbly bridge, but your kid’s imagination will transform it into a magical castle or pirate ship. We love the wooded outdoor setting with clean bathrooms just a few steps away.
Still in mint condition, this bright and cheery addition to the playground scene is tucked away behind a retail center and easily overlooked. Pity.
A perfect place for parents to unwind after climbing to the top of Wat Phnom. The elements have done a number on the floor tiles, but the equipment is holding up.
The tiny playground here was a convenient stop for families visiting Factory Phnom Penh, just a few steps away, so when it closed we were gutted. But now a new, bigger and better playground has been built on the site and we’re just hoping it will also remain open to the public.
A charming pocket-sized playground that is ideal for parents bringing their kids to the outdoor mall, or living nearby.
A small but fun playground that attracts an ever-changing group of toddlers as their parents go to and from the nearby retail and commercial buildings.
One of the biggest and busiest public playgrounds in the city, so it’s unfortunate that its maintenance budget is as sparse as its shade.
Playgrounds are even sparser once you leave the city center, but this riverfront outdoor park and play area is a long-time local favorite.
This small and clean outdoor play area for the kids is located in one of the city’s biggest gated communities… but the playground is open to the public.
